# 10 Ernest Hemmingway

Ernest Hemmingway (deceased 1962) was an American author and journalist who is famous for  his contributions to literary culture throughout the 20th century, such as his first novel, published in 1926 The Sun Also Rises.  Hemmingway’s writing style, described as “hard boiled” and coveringthemes such as war, love and loss were influenced by the vivid events of his life. Hemmingway fought in both World Wars and the Spanish Civil War, lived on several continents and in several countries, married four women and was almost killed multiple times (including two plane crashes which left him in constant pain), before finally taking his own life after a battle with depression.

# 9 Kofi Annan

Kofi Annan is a Ghanaian diplomat who is famous for serving in several positions in the United Nations, most notably including the Secretary General of the United Nations (1997-2006). Annan is also famous for helping to establish the Global Health Fund, an organization dedicated to the cause of fighting diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
